Fedipub receives funding from NGI Zero

We’re excited to announce that Fedipub has received its first funding from the EU Commission’s Next Generation Internet R&D programme, run by NLNet.

Overall the project has been awarded €44,000, which over the next few months will support development in a number of areas:

  • Website & documentation: making it easy for new adopters to get started with Fedipub, including docs, sample applications and video guides.
  • Security improvements: RFC 9421 signatures, FEP-8b32 Object Integrity Proofs, and the setup of a proper security and disclosure process.
  • Refactoring & testing: improving code design with everything we’ve learned so far, and automated testing in real-world situations.
  • Core ActivityPub features: supporting the core features list of ActivityPub and ActivityStreams, including the client-server (C2S) API.
  • Common FEPs: implementing the community standards around collections / starter packs, groups, relays, backfill, and more.
  • Beyond Rails: separate out Rails-specific code, and develop support for Roda and Hanami.

We’ll also be trying to build up the community, and widen its reach and diversity as we go.

It’s an exciting time, and we wouldn’t be able to put this focus on the project without NGI and NLNet, so… thanks! ❤️
